The topics I found most interesting from reviewing my classmates' blogs are the different online web-based resources. Everyone had pretty different and very useful ideas. One classmate had the online web-based resource of www.4teachers.org and I found it very interesting and useful. Everyone else had ideas that were useful and interesting and some I had never heard of.

I would like learn how to use is more about the internet. Information on how to make new websites and edit old ones. I think it would be really interesting to see how the websites work and manage one. It would be useful to make websites for your students to visit and it would also be useful to see what they like and dislike about the website and classroom via an annoymous comment box. Also, I could learn to monitor how many hits and from who the website earns a day, which could teach me when my students like to get their homework done!

I could achieve my future educational technology-related goals by remembering everything I learned in this class and taking it with me to the classroom. I could achieve those goals but following through and actually using everything I have learned so far and everything I will learn in future technology classes about education related technology in the classroom. Thanks for teaching me everything you did!!!

paragraph on ways in which you might achieve your future educational technology-related goals.

Post # 9 [I switched number 8 and 9 topic on accident!]

This is my post number 9 but is actually topic number 8 because I accidently did 9 for 8! Sorry!

I think my PowerPoint 2 assignment came out pretty well. I made sure each slide was hooked up to correct following slide. I also made sure my questions were challenging but they could also be answered. I also tried to make sure everything was pleasing to the eye and interesting to look at and enjoy. I tried to make each slide fun and different, but still stay organized and follow eachother. [I didn't add any examples because I finished it in class and don't have it saved on my home computer].

I might integrate peripherals and non-computer audio-viusal in the classroom by using pictures and real objects. Sometimes bringing in the actual object gives students a better feel than a 2-D image on the computer can give them. I might use them with computer-based technologies to make a presentation with information about each thing I bring in (for example, a preserved animal skull).

I think the PowerPoint Skills will be very useful in the educational career because there is so much to be done with them. Making games to play and animate presentations will teach students information but not bore them and will also keep them paying attention.

A web-bases resource I like using is Google Images. Pictures are a clear way to display words and it is often easier for certain students to understand. Google Images have a wide variety of images available for a countless number of topics. Also, Google Images is easily accessable to anyone who has basic internet connection. I usually don't have a problem finding exactly the image I am looking for.

Google.com/images is the site I use to pull of the images from Google Images. It is good to be used when teaching because I can use it for many subjects. Google Images has numbers for teaching math, books, ect. for teaching reading, animals and scientific pictures for teaching science. Also, a description and a website is offered with most of the images generated.

I think I will use Excel and programs like it to manage grade books and budget sheets. Grading first graders work would be much better organized in a program like Excel. An online program is not needed because most first graders do not need to keep up with their grades at home, but when they ask the teacher the teacher needs to know everything. Grading could be kept for all subject areas that I might teach the first graders.

The plan for the final project is introducing computers with software programs on the computers brought into the 4th and 5th grade classrooms. This way, teachers can break students up into groups that rotate different stations. One of the stations could be the computers which will be equipped with interactive programs that offer another way of learning for students. Programs that actively involve the students in solving math dilemnas. Programs that students can enter a practice essay and get an immediate grade. Challenges that were encountered were with the money and deciding what classrooms should get the computers and how many in each.

I feel the biggest advantage of using presentation software is the K-12 classrooms is the ease of use, creation of and ease of learning for the students. Presentation software is relatively easy to put together but looks very nice and pleasing to the eye. Using the software is very easy as well which makes it easy for students to follow the lesson and / or take notes. Students learn very easily with the software because it is so clear and easy to go back and forth between slides. The biggest disadvantage is that the software is not available everywhere. Not all schools and teachers have access to the software and neither do students. Also, teahcers can only work on projects using the software where they having appropriate computer access.

I might use PowerPoint to support student learning as a mean of lecturing. Students can easily follow along and take notes from my PowerPoint notes. A lesson on animals could be made easier because I could include pictures, animations and sounds.

Education technology that interests me is the online grading programs. Teachers can more easily keep track of grades and not have to do all the mathematical problems to figure out averages. Students can also follow along with their grades to check for errors. For example, Pinnacle is an online grade viewer for parents, students and teachers to keep track of.

POST 6

I think the use of Web 2.0 technologies in K-12 education is very useful because that leads to what is used in the real world. Students will see and learn an idea of what they will be working with for probably the rest of their lives; within school, work and home. It is also helpful for teachers to teach the students more effectively. The use of technologies makes more interesting lectures and more organized homework, tests and grading.

I think Wikipedia is an ok learning for resource for something that is not that important or for teaching purposes. Because anyone can add anything to Wikipedia, it is not a reliable learning resource. Teachers should not rely on Wikipedia for facts to teach in the classroom. People use Wikipedia all the time for personal use, which I think is fine, but not when it comes to teaching.

Although I was out of class last week, I think powerpoint is very useful for making lecture presentations. It is sometimes difficult for students to pay attention to just a teacher standing up at the classroom talking, so when the teacher can incorporate fun and interactive presentaions, students pay more attention. I think I would use powerpoints as the main lecture tool in the classroom; and also throughout school for presentations.

I think the Internet can be useful to support student research but it also has flaws because it can cause students to become lazy when doing research and also put together false information since anyone can put anything on the internet. The internet is useful when being used for part of the research from a ligitament site, not all of the research and not from bogus sites. It is also not appropriate for students to copy and paste articles off the internet as their own.

I might use web-based resources to support student learning by blogging with other teachers and finding new lesson plan and activity ideas. I could also do research on any kind of small learning disability a student might have and ways to work with him / her. Finding other teacher's and their ideas would be extremely helpful especially for first year teachers. I like the blogging websites for teachers and lesson plans generated from serach engines.

I am concerned about students becoming lazy and plagerizing. Also, that students may be misinformed and therefor use the incorrect information in their work which would teach them something wrong and also earn a dissatisfactory grade. Also, students could pull up many inappropriate websites. I am referring to third graders.

As a teacher, I would make use of the concept of a concept map and outlines for when students learn to write papers. It would be useful in showing them how writing a paper has just a few simple steps that need elaborated on. Also, the maps could be used to show students how things can be seperated into smaller and smaller groups. For example, Animals -> mammals + reptiles -> different types of mammals / reptiles under their respective catergories. Technologies that would be useful are things like Inspiration, Paint and Microsoft Word.

I would require my students to develops outlines and idea maps for writing their first papers because it is a good habit to get into. Students will be writing papers for many years to come and if they always made an outline to follow, they would be able to keep their paper on topic and be reminded to stick to what their orignal ideas (in the outline).

New skills I learned in the past week were all the Inspiration skills. The Inspiration program is extremely useful in creating concept maps because there is the option to make it one's own way or follow one of their layouts. The program could be useful for me to make examples for students to follow or for myself to follow as I am teaching.

I lesson plan I might create using technology would be fill-in notes. I would probably use Microsoft Word for this lesson plan about science for second graders. With these notes, a science movie is played and instead of students taking notes on what they think might be important, I give them a peice of paper of the important notes with random blanks throughout so they can fill in the blanks easily, as long as they are paying attention to the movie.

The website I am going to use is a mammals for kids website: http://faculty.buffalostate.edu/beaverjf/mammals/sld002.htm. The website uses the general design principles and it orients the users because each screen tells users wehre they are in the presentation. The text is justified appropriately because is it evenly distributed from left to right. The colors aren't really limited though, which makes it a little busy. However, the colors are standardized. The focus isn't limited to anything in particular but all the information is impotant.

Copyrighting is a huge deal especially when it comes to teachers because the information used is so widely reproduced and used. Fair use means sighting the true and original author of the works and not trying to pass if off as one's own. I might deal with these concepts by using as little of other people's work as possible. I would also be sure to site whoever the works belonged to that I borrowed. I would also make sure my students are well aware of the copyright rules and for them to be sure and only use their own work as their own.

I've used MS numerous times as a student for writing papers, doing homework assignments, taking notes in class and making study guides. MS has been really useful because I can type paper and monitor my word count, margins, ect. I have also been able to bring my computer to class and keep up with fast talking teachers by using MS and bullets. I have also been able to make really effective study guides for several of my classes. I've seen teacher's use MS to post study guides, notes and make assignments.

I would use MS word as a teacher to make newsletters to send home, letters to parents, permission slips, homework assignments, quizzes and tests in class. I could also use MS in the classroom as a reference for note taking.

New skills I have learned in this class include the bullet-making skills, the personalized letter to a classroom of students, how to use clip art, banners, borders, and make columnms. I know these things will all be especially useful in the classroom because teacher's use MS all the time to make the letters, homework assignments, tests and quizzes. It would be very useful to make MS documents that are professional looking and personalized; also MS documents that are easy to grade and easy to read and understand for parents.

I think computers are very important in the education experience because computers and technology are used everyday in the real world, including within jobs and the home. Using technology such as computers in the classroom improves analytical thinking among students. Computer use in the classroom also promotes information management skills for students. Problem-based learning is also useful because students are given opportunities to work alone, or in pairs or groups. A critical concern is the students knowing more about computers than the teacher. This is expected because, as the book says, a teacher is not responsible for exploring every tool of every program when using computers in the classroom. A student teaching his or her teacher a thing here or there is acceptable, but, as the book states, it is not acceptable when a student shows a teacher how to copy and paste. I agree with the issues raised in Chapter 1 because they are all very real issues that will be faced in a classroom dealing with computers. I think teachers should only teach with computers if they are well aware of what they are teaching and not learning as they go.

I would use computers in my classroom for my students to gather information. Using search engines such as Google has become very common in almost everyone's lives today, so it is an important tool to know how to use effectively. Computers would also be used to display and present information. Maps and storyboards designed on the computer are much more cleaner and organized then written out in hand and possibly scribbled out or erased or miss-spelled. I would also use computers in the classroom to analyze information. Students can enter information into databases and spreadsheets and then make their charts / graphs and then make their interpretations of the information. Students are enabled to make their own judgments based on accurate graphs generated by the computer. I hope to learn how to effectively use all the programs currently available in order to become an informed teacher.

I just hope to learn everything I can about programs like Microsoft Windows because I know they can be very simply used, but they also have tons of useful applications that I don't know about!
